Help Our Sinai Family

Being part of the Sinai family means having deep connections with each other, and being there for each other in good times and bad. We really care about each other and we also have a lot of fun. Take a look at the different ways you can work and laugh together and/or make a difference for our Sinai family.

SUPPORTING MEMBERS IN NEED (CHESED)

Support Members in Need (Chesed)

Chesed (translation: lovingkindness) is a Sinai committee that helps members and their families who are having difficult times.

  • Need a meal or help with driving (kids, to appointments) because of you are ill or have had surgery? Call and we will help.

  • Need a Shiva minyan (to hold services in your home so you can recite the Kaddish prayer after a death in the family)? We can help with that too.

  • Overwhelmed with a brand new baby? Call and let us know what we can do.

Call Joelle Pluemer in the Sinai office, at 408-264-8542. She will forward your request.

Want to be part of the committee and help others at Sinai? Let us know via a phone call to the office, or email us at chesed@sinai-sj.org. You'll be doing a real mitzvah!

COMFORTING MOURNERS (NECHAMAH)

Comfort in Loss

All of us experience loss at times in our lives.  Practices around death, funerals, and mourning are among the oldest and most meaningful traditions in Jewish life.  Below is some basic information that may be of assistance.  If you would like to learn more about Jewish beliefs and practices, including for those who are not sure how to comfort someone else who has experienced a loss, check out this website.

Repair The World

Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, is an important mission at Congregation Sinai. You can participate in a Social Action project every month, from the quarterly lunches we cook and serve at the San Jose Family shelter, to our winter coat drive, canned food drive, blood drive, and "Embrace-A-Family" effort at Chanukah.

Please consider joining our Sinai Social Action Committee  to help envision and plan social action activities and opportunities at Sinai. Or just stay tuned to this webpage for information on upcoming events.

Email  socialaction@sinai-sj.org for more info and/or to get involved!

Sinai Social Action Committee Goals:

  • Make social action more accessible to the Sinai community, youth and adult. Let's focus on activities and opportunities that appeal to a wide variety of people within our diverse community. We are always open to new ideas!

  • Build on and connect the many ways in which Sinai members already are engaged in social action. Let's highlight successes and coordinate activities so that our efforts become more visible and help to energize one another!
