Sinai Film Club “Bad Shabbos”: Sunday, May 17, in the Mirkin Chapel. Doors open at 6:15pm for schmoozing and free refreshments, and the film begins promptly at 6:45pm with discussion to follow. Entrance and refreshments are free.
Bad Shabbos (1 hr. 24 min., 2025). An engaged interfaith couple is about to have their parents meet for the first time over a Shabbat dinner when an accidental death gets in the way. 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and winner of the audience awards on the Jewish Film Festival circuit, including for Best Narrative at the Tribeca Film Festival, one has to wonder what is the purpose and what is achieved by this parody of stereotypes that avoids actually confronting the crisis? A lively discussion to follow the screening.
