7th grade B'nei Mitzvah Program

  • Congregation Sinai 1532 Willowbrae Avenue San Jose, CA, 95125 United States (map)

Sunday, January 11, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. The program will begin and end at Sinai. This month's topic is Ma'achil Re'evim (feeding the hungry).

Students will learn about food scarcity, kashrut, and gain some derech eretz (practical knowledge). The 7th graders will go to Safeway together where they will shop for specific clients who receive food assistance from JFS. This is a really fun and important activity (for the students and the adults accompanying them). Food will then be delivered to JFS.

The Mission of our 7th Grade B’nei Mitzvah Program is for students to learn what it means to be an adult in the Jewish community through study, hands-on activities, family projects, and multi-generational interactions. Students will learn about key Jewish values, mitzvot, and rituals. Monthly activities will explore Jewish approaches to tzedakah, homelessness, hunger, the environment, as well as ritual themes like kashrut and tzitzit.
